DIY First Aid Kit for Your Pet
Just like kids, your pets are bound to get minor scrapes from time to time. And while you may have many of these items in your home already, it’s time to get organized and create a doggy first aid kit! They can certainly come in handy and should always be carried when traveling with your pet – whether you’re out for a day-hike on vacation, or just at home. We’ve certainly had to use many of the items listed below when our dogs have injured themselves.
We’ve compiled a list of things to include in your pet’s first aid kit:
- Plastic container to hold all first aid items
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Scissors
- Gauze Pads
- First Aid Tape
- Blanket or towel
- Betadine solution
- Tweezers
- Antiseptic wipes or spray
- Sterile saline solution
- Cotton balls
- Nail clippers
- Styptic powder (sold at pet supply stores to stop bleeding)
- Syringe
- Antibiotic ointment
- Benadryl (used for allergic reactions) – see this guide for dosage and recommendations
Of course, if there is an emergency, contact your vet as soon as possible.
